On Tybee time. What does that mean?
It can mean a day at the beach, a swim in the ocean (or the quiet back river), a walk in the sand, a leisurely bike ride around town, great fishing, fantastic local seafood, breathtaking sunrises, glorious sunsets, watching dolphins, watching people, shell collecting, a climb to the top of the lighthouse, a kayak adventure, an eco tour, or… just relaxing and enjoying the slower pace. It is, above all else, a lifestyle!
Tybee is laid-back, low key, and unapologetically unpretentious.
Over its rich history, Tybee Island has been claimed by many: the Native Americans, the Spanish, the French, the Pirates, the British, the Confederates, the Union, the Old money, the New money, the No money, and numerous others, like me, who love this little coastal oasis.
It’s been known as Tybee, Ocean City, Savannah Beach, and affectionately (by some) as the Truckstop by the Sea!
Its location at the mouth of the Savannah River and its proximity to the city of Savannah permanently link their histories.
But this is not a history book.
It’s a photo book, a look at today’s Tybee.
The Tybee I have come to know and love.
So, come on along, relax, move a little slower, breathe a little deeper, put on those flip flops, and picture yourself… On Tybee Time.
